ZIGZAGS

ZIGZAGS is a multidisciplinary artist producing works that engage, provoke, and question the public; frequently utilizing void, overlooked, underutilized, and non/gray-spaces to recontextualize the civic realm. Akin to transgressive placemaking and experience design, ZIGZAGS' practice creates thought-provoking works that challenge the viewer's perspective on the spaces they inhabit.

ZIGZAGS' designed situations invite viewers to actively engage with their surroundings. The reality of social interactions is conveyed through shared discovery, tension, and spontaneous action, leading to the development of profound social spaces. These spaces allow participants to enter alternative cognitive and emotional frameworks of interaction; which challenge participants to engage with their surrounding environment and community in new and exciting ways.

In addition to their art practice, ZIGZAGS is an infrastructure researcher and historian, examining past, present, and future water supply systems, wastewater conveyance systems, and transportation systems. This practice of infrastructure research is reflected in their art, which often explores the relationship between infrastructure and the public spaces it shapes.

ZIGZAGS' practice blurs the lines between art, placemaking, and experience design, challenging viewers to think about their relationship to the built environment and encouraging them to interact with public spaces in new and innovative ways.

In addition to the artists solo work, ZIGZAGS cofounded The San Francisco Hiking Club and has produced a large body of work in collaboration with many artists for the group.
